Greek Peak Mountain Resort Wraps Up a Memorable 65th Ski Season, Gears Up for Spring and Summer Activities
April 5, 2024
CORTLAND, New York (April 5, 2024) – Despite another record-low snowfall year, Greek Peak wrapped up its 2023-24 ski season with 111 days on the slopes for their guests in a milestone 65th season as Central New York’s home mountain that ran from November into April.
“It was an up and down season this year given the weather, but we managed to maximize our guests’ access and time on the slopes this year,” said Wes Kryger, President of Greek Peak Mountain Resort. “Any time we can deliver 100 days or more for snow sports is considered a success, but I’m especially proud of our mountain ops crew and what they were able to do and maintain for our guests in an especially challenging weather year.”
That very mountain operations team Kryger referenced was recognized this past season for their snow-making efforts by being one of eight resorts selected from across North America to compete in Ski Area Management magazine (SAM) and HKD’s annual “I AM a Snowmaker” video competition. With tremendous voting support from its Central New York faithful, Greek Peak won this year’s competition, one of many highlights from a memorable season.
“Our Guest Experience team was also top-notch this year,” noted Kryger. “We are all about creating unforgettable memories at Greek Peak, and we are so grateful to the many guests that came out to celebrate our 65th season with us.”
Greek Peak also just wrapped up year three of a five-year snow-making and infrastructure plan this past season. Over that three-year span, $3.5 million has been invested, resulting in a better experience on the slopes than ever before due to these improvements:
- New airline and pipes across the mountain for greater output and efficiency.
- New midway pumphouse with three new pumps and a new pump in main pumphouse.
- East mountain pumphouse pumps replaced, doubling water output.
- 60 new sets of hydrants installed.
- 57 new HKD high-efficiency snow guns.
- Chair 1 variable drive installed.
- Chair 3 upgrade to triple-chair.
- Upgraded trail lighting.
- New trails: Electra, Medusa, Khione; and yearly glade-clearing efforts.
- Inventory upgrades to rental equipment: skis, boards, and helmets.
Year four of the plan will include new infrastructure for the Zephyr and Castor areas of the mountain, plus more snow guns, hydrants, and pumps. Additional details for the year-four capital plan will be forthcoming in the next few months.
The focus now shifts to the Spring/Summer season and all the resort amenities that come to the forefront during those seasons:
- The Campground at Hope Lake is now open for dry-camping only. Full water-sewer hookups will be available on May 1.
- The Adventure Center is open for the Mountain Coaster and Zipline tours.
- The Hope Lake Disc Golf Course is open for the season.
- The Bike Park re-opens Memorial Day weekend.
- The Town of Virgil’s Hope Lake Park opens Memorial Day weekend.
