Switchin’ Gears: Behind the Scenes with Greek Peak’s Hill Crew

Ski season may be winding down, but things don’t slow down at Greek Peak—not even a little. While the last bits of snow melt away, our mountain operations crew shifts into overdrive, getting the resort ready for its summer adventures.

There’s a whole lot that goes into the seasonal switch, and we wanted to pull back the curtain on what really happens once the lifts stop spinning. To get the inside scoop, we sat down with one of the key people behind the scenes: Jarrett Dulemba.

Meet the Mountain Masters

Jarrett Dulemba
Title: Assistant Mountain Operations Manager
Years at Greek Peak: 5 Seasons
Fun Fact: I’ve been sliding on snow since I was 4 years old.

Jarrett’s been an essential part of the operations team, helping the mountain flow smoothly from snow-covered slopes to sunny trails and back again

Q&A With the Hill Crew

We asked Jarrett to walk us through what really goes on behind the scenes during the seasonal switch. His answers shed light on all the planning, prepping, and hard work that keeps the Greek Peak experience running year-round.

Q: What’s the first thing you do when ski season ends?
Jarrett:
“Once the ski season ends, I conduct a post-season assessment, inspecting and maintaining equipment, and reviewing our team’s performance. I then also start planning the summer infrastructure upgrades whether that’s installing new pipe, snowmaking pumps or other snowmaking projects. As well as start budgeting for the next season, and hold a team debrief to plan for improvements.”

Q: How do you ‘put away’ the mountain for winter?
Jarrett:
“For snowmaking we tend to put away the mountain by removing all the snowmaking hoses off snowmaking equipment and storing all our portable snowmaking equipment in one location. As well as conducting a system test to determine operational issue with snowmaking equipment so we can make the repairs in the off season.”

Q: What’s something guests might not realize happens in the off-season?
Jarrett:
“Many guests often think that once the snowmelts we are off for the year, but that’s not the case. During the summer the mountain operations team performs maintenance and upgrades to our mountain. From conducting annual ski lift maintenance all the way to trail maintenance.”

Q: How long does the transition take?
Jarrett:
“It doesn’t take too long to transition; we get right on projects that need to be done.”

Q: What’s the toughest part of summer prep?
Jarrett:
“Toughest part of summer is getting all the projects finished. Summer can be challenging because of the weather so it is always tough in the summer to get as much as we can done before we transition back into winter mode.”Q: What’s your favorite part of summer at Greek Peak?
Jarrett:
“Favorite part of summer is knowing that we are making the necessary improvements to make our winter season a success for all to enjoy!”

Did You Know?

Here’s a peek at just a few things happening while most of us are thinking about flip-flops instead of snow boots:

  • Chairlifts get a full once-over to get ready for summer scenic rides and zipline access.
  • Snow guns and portable equipment are cleaned, stored, and serviced.
  • Trail crews inspect and fine-tune terrain for biking and hiking season.
  • Wildlife tends to reclaim the mountain long before the last snowbank melts—sometimes giving the crew a surprise or two!

Spring Projects in Progress: Snowmaking Gets an Upgrade

We’re not just maintaining, we’re improving. This spring, the hill crew kicked off a key infrastructure upgrade: expanding snowmaking on the Zephyr and East Meadow trails. That means more reliable snow, better early-season conditions, and an even smoother ride for beginners and families.

It’s part of our ongoing push to make Greek Peak more accessible, more dependable, and more fun, whether you’re clipping in for your first ski lesson or chasing the season’s last turns.

Final Thoughts

I gotta say, it’s pretty incredible what goes on when the guests go home. While most folks are putting their skis in storage and planning summer getaways, our operations team is already deep into the next chapter, laying the groundwork for future fun.

These folks don’t just know the mountain, they build the experience. And when it comes to switching from skis to summer, they never miss a gear.
